I work in retail and often find myself needing to write on boxes or product labels. These work the best for what I need and I don't have to worry about them breaking as I keep them in my knife holster. I can always count on being able to leave anyone notes no matter what surface I am writing on and don't have to search for a pen or sharpie. I also keep one in my truck for those times when I need to write down a phone number on the go and don't have to worry about a pen drying out. Great to keep around since they write on any surface.
