The pencils themselves are of an attractive design featuring metal bodies, knurled grips, pocket clips and erasers underneath the pencil caps. The pencils also have retractable steel lead sleeves that look to be about 3mm in length. With the lead sleeve fully retracted, these pencils are pocket safe, meaning they aren't likely to poke holes in the pockets of your clothing.The lead is actuated through a brass chuck or clutch mechanism, and gives off a satisfying metallic "click" when the top knock button is pressed. I found the pocket clips to have a good deal of tension, and so they should hold onto whatever they are attached to with a firm grip. I would advise being careful when pulling the pencil out of your pocket if it is attached to the fabric as it may snag on the pocket and might cause some damage. In that case, you may want to pull up on the clip slightly to remove the pencil.These pencils are fairly light in weight, though there is a bit of extra mass towards the point, which, along with the fine knurled grip, I find makes for a comfortable writing experience.The M&G branded lead is rated as HB, but looks to me somewhere between H and HB in darkness, or in other words it's more like F grade lead. There is some high pitched squeaking noise that is emitted when writing with this lead, if that is a concern for you. You can use lead from other manufacturers, of course.As far as the erasers are concerned, the eraser attached to the pencil does a fairly good job of erasing any marks, though it has trouble completely erasing marks that have been hard pressed into the papers' surface. When it comes time to replace this eraser, you can use the size MS-10 mechanical pencil erasers made by Pilot, but you will have to remove the plastic braces first as they make the eraser too thick to fit into the eraser dock. The included block eraser seems to be made of the same material as the ones on the pencil and so its' quality is about equal to them.There are no markings or printings on these pencils, save for the lead size with can be viewed in a window on the pocket clip. The overall feel of the pencil is, as stated earlier, comfortable and I noticed my grip on these pencils to be steady. I am impressed by the overall quality pencils.I got the two piece black set. They look nice, feel great when writing, work smoothly every time. For writing utensils I love them. My one small gripe is the super cheap single layer bent clip. It looks cheap, it doesn't hold very strongly, and I accidentally bent one pretty easily.Having said that, these are great value for the money. I absolutely would buy them again. The next closest I could find in a black metal mechanical pencil with a better clip cost $40 for one (that "O" brand). I'm not THAT obsessed with the clip.A long time ago I got nice a pen and mechanical pencil set. They were really nice items made of metal but the pen was eventually misplaced and the pencil stolen. I always wanted to replace at least the pencil and this set gets me close.Pros- It has the metal sheath that slips out from the tip of the pencil to cover the lead and provide additional strength and protection for the lead. It can be retracted for travel. Probably one of the best features of this pencil.- Eraser under the cap, but it's a small one, meant for just small corrections. The included external eraser is a nice plus.- You get both the .7 and .5 sizes, and lead refills. Unless you're using these guys full-time as a draftsman, this will last you a while.Cons- The set comes in a cheap plastic case that doesn't really fit everything. They should just ship it all in a small box.- The pencils look exactly like the picture, but the lead refill cases and the eraser look different. The eraser is beige instead of white and seems a bit smaller, and the lead refills come in simple tubes while the picture shows some kind of interesting looking dispenser. Not a big deal as long as everything works, but just wanted to give a heads-up.- I like the pencils (hence the good rating) but the reviewer that said there are better ones out there is right. It does seem these are made of metal but while the grip feels like metal the rest of the pencil sort of feels like a plastic. The clip on the pencil is not moveable/removable, it seems welded in place. The one I lost years ago was nicer and seemed of finer craftsmanship.Do not be dismayed by my personal quirks about this set. It's a fine set that should last a lifetime and will serve you well, for a better price than some bigger brand names.Update (24-Oct-2019): I ordered a second set recently and they've added a new option; you can get this set in black. I got the black set as a gift for someone and it was similar to my set but even better. The extras do look just like the picture.I was more than a little skeptical about ordering this item. Two metal mechanical pencils with retracting sleeves, one in .7mm and the other in .5mm, along with HB lead for both, for about $13. They arrived on time and a day or two later I got the opportunity to open the package up and try them out.I prefer .7mm most of the time so that's the first one I tried. Did my standard new mechanical routine: open it up, dump the lead out (two pieces in the barrel + one feeding) and replace with my own supply of B hardness lead. The barrel accepts 4 to 5 pieces of lead. Once you remove the metal cap, there is a white eraser that is not sleeved with metal. It fits snuggly in the top and works well doing it's job.The lead sleeve retracts fully inside the business end of the pencil, which has a graceful taper to a short cylinder shape. The grip has a comfortable stipple and 5 machined rings. The outer barrel is a hexagonal metal section. The clip is secure and metal with a window cut into it to show the lead size. It does not rotate or slide around the pencil.The weight is very good. If you were using this to take notes for school, a day of classes would not tire your hand out.My only wish? That they make a ball pen that matches.Within a week the 0.5 pencil's inner mechanics was not working. When you click to advance the lead, the entire lead comes out.
